Plantroom Refurbishment, Sunderland Royal Hospital
We delivered the full refurbishment of a heating plantroom serving occupied ward blocks within Sunderland Royal Hospital — working within a live clinical environment throughout, with a temporary boiler plant installed to maintain uninterrupted heating and hot water services for the duration.
Scope of Works
- Removal of existing boiler plant and primary pipework
- Installation of new high-efficiency modular boiler plant
- Replacement of primary and secondary pumping systems
- Installation of new stainless steel press-fit pipework
- Installation of a new common flue system
- Upgrade of plantroom controls and BMS interface
Plant & Systems
The installation comprised modular condensing boilers, energy-efficient circulation pumps, and a new control panel integrated with the existing BMS to improve monitoring and operational performance.
Delivery
Works were carried out within a live clinical environment, requiring phased delivery and strict coordination to avoid disruption to critical hospital services. A temporary boiler plant was installed before strip-out commenced to guarantee heating and hot water continuity for ward blocks.
