Design around the purpose of each view
Identify entrances, loading areas, operational spaces and boundaries on a site plan. Explain whether each view is needed for live observation, reviewing an incident or supporting monitoring. Camera positioning should account for lighting, movement, obstructions and changes in the site layout.
New installations and existing-system upgrades
Discuss IP cameras, recording equipment, cabling and network infrastructure for a new installation or an upgrade. Existing systems need a survey before compatibility and reuse can be confirmed. Coordinate installation access and any interruption with your operating hours.
Decide how footage and alerts will be used
Agree recording and retention requirements, authorised user access, footage export and any remote monitoring connection. A recording system alone is not a monitoring contract: if you need event assessment and escalation, include that explicitly in the brief.
Handover and maintenance
Agree camera schedules, system information, operator familiarisation and testing before completion. Ongoing checks should cover recording, useful camera views, time settings and access to footage, as well as whether the live picture is visible.
