Office Fit-Out & Mechanical Installation
The Catalyst, Newcastle Helix

We delivered the full mechanical services installation as part of a fast-track office fit-out within The Catalyst - a landmark commercial building at Newcastle Helix, the city's 24-acre science and innovation quarter. Working to a phased programme, we installed complete HVAC systems across multiple floors to create fully controlled working environments for early occupation.

Scope of Works

  • Supply and installation of VRF air conditioning system across multiple floors
  • Installation of fan coil units and ducted ventilation distribution
  • Supply and installation of heat recovery units throughout
  • Dedicated air handling unit (AHU) - installed via coordinated crane and lift operation
  • Full ductwork, pipework and insulation installation
  • Controls integration and BMS commissioning

Systems & Integration

All mechanical systems were integrated into a central Building Management System, providing full environmental control across office floors, meeting rooms, the council chamber and boardroom. Zoned VRF allows independent climate control for each space, with heat recovery ensuring energy efficiency throughout the building.

Delivery

The project was delivered on a fast-track programme with phased handover, allowing key areas of the building to be occupied ahead of full completion. Close coordination with the principal contractor and other trades ensured the AHU installation - requiring a planned lift operation - was completed without impact on the wider programme.
